Construction to develop 1.26 acres of vacant land in Tucson, AZ into quality, energy efficient housing for persons with disabilities was completed in February 2016. The 25 housing units were completed using Universal Design standards to make all units accessible. The project provides on-site tenant services and/or access to the programs, services and neighborhood amenities needed by this population. Amenities include a community center, community garden, large porches on each floor, an elevator, laundry facilities, food pantry, outdoor grill and patio and a courtyard. The project was awarded funding from the City of Tucson, Arizona Department of Housing, Pima County and the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco.

The community garden brings together residents and neighbors to grow food that will be sustainable, organic, fresh, and available. Residents and neighbors work alongside one another during the growing season to harvest and reap, and eat the benefits of what they have grown. Alvord Court Apartments community garden cultivates community as well as crops.  If you are interested in volunteering with the Alvord Court Community Garden, call us at 520.777.3766 or 520.499.6285.
